Monument de la Francophonie

The Club Richelieu – A Francophone Community Leader

Since 1948, the Club Richelieu Cornwall has been actively committed to serving the Francophone community of the region. True to its motto Inspire – Unite – Act, the Club mobilizes citizens, supports cultural projects, and contributes to the sustainability of Francophone identity. At the heart of its mission lies the promotion of the French language—an essential pillar reflected through initiatives that foster the cultural development of youth and the broader community. One of its most significant unifying projects is the creation of the Monument de la Francophonie, inauguré le 12 septembre 2010 au parc Lamoureux.

This commemorative landmark highlights the presence and heritage of the local Francophone community. Designed by artist Gilles Davidson, this impressive work serves as a gathering place that enhances the visibility of Ontario’s Francophone heritage in public spaces. It also underscores the historical contributions of Franco-Ontarians in the region and provides a strong point of cultural identity. Each year, a Tintamarre celebration is held at the site, bringing together Francophones and Francophiles in a vibrant celebration of their language and cultural identity.

This project first came to life through the leadership of the Club Richelieu, which played a decisive role in its funding, implementation, and community mobilization—making the monument a symbol of pride, belonging, and vitality. To this day, the Club Richelieu remains deeply grateful to all partners, entrepreneurs, and community members who invested their ideas, time, and resources with passion and generosity to bring this monumental project to life.

As a service club, the Club Richelieu invests in our youth. Needless to say, this investment requires funds that it receives from individuals, companies and organizations.
